Intermodal Volume Rises in 2010

Intermodal traffic volume rose 12.8% in the fourth quarter of 2010, ending the year 14.7% higher than 2009, the Intermodal Association of North America said.

International container volume rose 16.9% in the quarter to 1.84 million units, and 18.5% for the year to 7.24 million, the biggest such increase since IANA began records in 1996.

International intermodal volume grew each quarter of the year, the group said Tuesday.

Domestic containers saw an 8.9% increase in the quarter to 1.16 million units and gained 13.3% for the year to 4.5 million units.



Trailer volume grew 7.3% in the quarter to about 450,000 units and rose 3.7% for the year to 1.7 million units, the group said.
