Imported Goods Prices Rise 2.2% in April

The price of goods imported to the United States rose 2.2% in April, led by increases in fuel and food, the Labor Department said Tuesday.

The upturn, which followed a revised 2.6% gain in March, topped economists’ forecasts of a 1.8% increase, Bloomberg reported.

Imported petroleum prices jumped 7.2%, while prices excluding fuel rose 4.3%. Food import prices rose 1.8%.

U.S. export prices rose 1.1% following a 1.5% gain in March, Labor said.
