I-75 Near Detroit Expected to Reopen Monday

A two-mile stretch of Interstate 75 damaged by a fiery explosion last week is expected to reopen Monday, the Detroit Free Press reported.

The stretch, between I-696 and 8 Mile, could reopen before the afternoon rush hour, the paper said.

The highway’s southbound lanes reopened Sunday afternoon after round-the-clock work by resurfacing and demolition crews, the Free Press said, citing the Michigan Department of Transportation.

A 27-year-old automobile driver caused the accident by crashing into a tanker truck, disconnecting the tank from the cab, the paper said, citing police.

Quick action by another trucker avoided a more serious accident, as several drivers suffered only minor bruises in the accident, in which no one was killed.
