I-20 Reopens in Georgia Following Floods

The Georgia Department of Transportation has reopened Interstate 20 through several counties that were flooded earlier this week, making the highway impassible, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

The interstate reopened through Fulton, Cobb and Douglas counties late Wednesday morning, the paper said on its Web site.

The state had closed a stretch of I-20 since Monday, when extensive flood waters ran over both eastbound and westbound lanes, the paper said.

Several state highway bridges remained closed, including the Ga. 34 bridges over the Chattahoochee River and over Lumpkin Creek in Heard County, and the Ga. 166 bridges over the Chattahoochee River and over Anneewakee Creek in Douglas County, the paper said, citing the state DOT.
