House Panel to Hold Wetlines Hearing Monday in Baltimore

The chairwoman of a House subcommittee has scheduled a field hearing Monday in Baltimore on a controversial House bill that would prohibit the transportation of flammable liquids in unprotected product piping on both existing and newly-manufactured cargo tank trucks.

Rep. Corrine Brown (D-Fla.), chairwoman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee’s railroads, pipelines, and hazardous materials subcommittee, called the hearing after “last minute concerns” were expressed by fellow committee members just before a Nov. 5 scheduled mark-up of the legislation.

The hearing will be preceded by a tour of a cargo tank repair facility in Baltimore to give the committee a first-hand look at the dangers associated with repairing cargo tankers.

The hearing will be held at 1 p.m. Eastern time; click here for hearing information. (House of Representatives site.)
