House Panel Considers Freight Infrastructure Funding

Members of a House subcommittee heard testimony on funding freight transportation networks, including the experience of state transportation departments in Maryland and Virginia.

A special panel of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee held its final hearing Oct. 10 on the subject of funding. Subcommittee Chairman John Duncan Jr. (R-Tenn.) said his 11-member group will write a final report on their hearings within several weeks.

The final hearing was on transportation funding. Duncan and ranking member Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) agreed that freight transportation funding is lacking and should be increased.

In addition to hearings in Washington, the committee has visited transportation centers in Southern California; Memphis, Tenn.; and New York City.

More coverage of the hearing will be in the Oct. 21 issue of Transport Topics.
