Hersman Begins Second Term as NTSB Chairman

Deborah Hersman was sworn in for her second two-year term as National Transportation Safety Board chairman on Thursday.

Hersman, who became chairman in July 2009, was nominated for a second term by President Obama June 28 and confirmed by the U.S. Senate Aug. 2, NTSB said.

“I look forward to continuing to work with my fellow board members and the staff to make transportation safer for our citizens,” Hersman said in a statement.

The five-member NTSB is an independent agency charged with investigating transportation accidents.

Hersman’s term as chairman ends Aug. 3, 2013. She is concurrently serving a second five-year term as board member, which runs through Dec. 31, 2013, NTSB said.
