Heniff Transportation Systems has acquired Horizon Tank Lines, a bulk chemical hauler based in Durham, North Carolina. Terms were not disclosed.

Privately held Horizon Tank Lines, based in Oak Brook, Illinois, was formed in 1994. It has terminals in Wilmington and Hamlet, North Carolina.

Horizon’s approximately 40 trucks will bring Heniff’s total to about 400 trucks and 850 trailers, a Heniff spokesman said.

Horizon owner Charles Collie has been involved in the transportation of chemicals for more than 30 years. The carrier’s management and driver team will transition to Heniff.

“This is truly a fantastic opportunity to provide longevity to our drivers and employees,” Collie said in a statement.

Liquid bulk carrier Heniff Transportation Systems was founded in 1998 by Robert Heniff.

The acquisition will expand Heniff’s footprint into the Southeast. The carrier will have 13 terminals across the Midwest, Northeast, South and Southeast.
