Heartland’s 3Q Profit Drops

Truckload carrier Heartland Express said its third-profit fell 22.5% from a year ago.

Earnings were $14.5 million, down from $18.7 million a year ago. Per-share earnings decreased to 16 cents, from 19 cents.

Revenue fell 33.3% to $113.4 million, from $169.9 million last year.

Heartland said it “still has not seen any strong indicators of improvements in the demand for freight services that would increase our levels of business in the near future.”

It added that it remains “in an opportunistic position,” and that it continues to focus efforts on customer service, cost controls and improve each department of the company.

Heartland Express is ranked No. 43 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire trucking companies.
