GXO Logistics launched a multiyear plan to expand operations in Germany, the company announced June 8.

GXO ranks No. 6 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest logistics companies in North America

The Greenwich, Conn.-based contract logistics provider said the initial phase will involve building a 387,000-square-foot warehouse in the key logistics market of Dormagen.

GXO said the facility will be a launchpad for its market expansion. It also will serve as a showcase for its advanced warehousing solutions.

“We are very excited by the significant growth opportunities in this highly attractive market,” said Richard Cawston, president of GXO’s operations in Europe. “Our expansion brings to the market a new approach, new energy, as well as offering greater choice than traditional logistics providers.

“We’re seeing increasing demand to partner with GXO from existing and new customers in e-commerce, fashion and consumer technology because of our agility, unique capabilities and tech expertise.”

Cawston cited the acquisition of Clipper Logistics last year as helping to enable the expansion. GXO gained a geographic presence in Germany and Poland after the completion of the deal. Clipper provided logistics services to retailers across Europe. Stefan Van Hoof, managing director of central Europe at GXO, has been leading expansion efforts in the region. He previously served as CEO of mainland Europe for Clipper.

“I’m looking forward to leveraging GXO’s best-in-class technologies and customer-centricity to shake up the logistics landscape and rapidly grow our operations in Germany,” said Van Hoof. “Our bespoke offering and cutting-edge technology clearly differentiate GXO in the market and make us an ideal partner for customers looking to evolve and modernize their logistics and warehousing solutions."
