Freight Volume Rises 32% in July

The latest DAT report of spot freight market activity showed a 32% increase in freight volume in July from last year.

Van freight increased 40% from the previous year, flatbed freight rose 52% and refrigerated trucking freight volume increased 28% from 2013, according to DAT.

The Aug. 8 monthly North American Freight Index report from DAT showed an 11% decline in spot market loads in July from the prior month when it typically peaks. The 10-year average decline from June to July is 19%.

Van loads declined 15% month to month, reefer freight dropped 10% and flatbed volume declined 11%, DAT’s report showed.
