The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has temporarily waived enforcement of certain trucking regulations as part of an emergency declaration covering 34 Eastern, Southern and Midwestern states and the District of Columbia through Feb. 11.

The declarations were signed by regional FMCSA field administrators and issued in response to shortages of propane and other heating fuels.

Among those receiving “regulatory relief” for hours of service are drivers providing “direct assistance” in the transport of propane and home heating fuels. The National Propane Gas Association had petitioned for the waivers earlier in January.

Sixteen states already had waivers in place through orders signed by governors and other state officials.

The 13 Eastern states run from Maine through Virginia and West Virginia.

The Midwestern states are Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio and Wisconsin.

The Southern states are Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Oklahoma.
