FMCSA Shuts Down Five Moving Companies

FMCSA has shut down five household-goods moving companies in three states, alleging that the carriers were “holding customer shipments hostage and failing to turn over records related to their investigations.”

The Nov. 26 statement from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration described the action as being part of the Department of Transportation’s Moving Fraud Task Force.

“The last thing families should have to worry about during a move is whether or not their goods will be held hostage by a dishonest moving company,” Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said.

The five companies are: Allegiant Van Lines, Davie, Fla.; Northern Van Lines, Cooper City, Fla.; Northeastern Vanlines, Pembroke Pines, Fla.; United West Moving & Storage, Anderson, S.C.; and Direct Movers, Pikesville, Md.

Attempts to reach the companies were unsuccessful.

FMCSA said more than 5,800 household-goods moving companies are registered with the agency.
