FMCSA Publishes Streamlined Pamphlet on Moving Rights

The moving industry and regulators have designated May as National Moving Month, and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration marked the occasion by publishing a shortened version of its publication outlining movers’ rights and responsibilities.

Movers must give each customer they serve the “Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move” pamphlet, which outlines moving regulations for consumers.

The new, streamlined pamphlet is 27 pages, almost half the length of the previous pamphlet.

In a Federal Register notice published Thursday, FMCSA said movers can use either the longer or shorter version of the pamphlet, or provide either one electronically. The agency said it will soon propose requiring the shorter booklet.

Officials with the American Moving & Storage Association kicked off National Moving Month at a press conference Wednesday in Houston with FMCSA Administrator Anne Ferro and Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, the organization said.

May is the beginning of the peak season for moving, and June and July are the busiest months, AMSA said.
