FHWA Approves Final Standards For Truck Parking Program

he Federal Highway Administration said it has approved final criteria for a program aimed at helping truckers find parking near interstates.

Trucking and truck-stop officials said the “Interstate Oasis” program should alleviate some parking inconveniences for drivers, but one industry group said it would not do enough to solve the shortage of truck parking.

“We anticipate that the Interstate Oasis program will increase the availability of truck parking, thereby reducing the occurrence of truck parking on the shoulders of Interstate highways that could be contributing to congestion,” FHWA said in its Oct. 18 notice.
