FedEx Custom Critical Launches New Monitoring Service

FedEx Custom Critical said it is launching a new monitoring system called ShipmentWatch, which enables it to monitor a package’s location, temperature, light exposure and humidity.

The system works with a seven-ounce device placed inside a package, pallet or trailer that transmits data to a Web-based application, FedEx said.

“This service is another addition to the layers of security we can add to a customer’s shipment, whether it’s a FedEx shipment or even one with another carrier,” Virginia Albanese, president of FedEx Custom Critica,l said in a statement.

The device is programmed to the customer’s requirements then sent to the shipper and then monitored by a command center at FedEx Custom Critical headquarters, the company said.

FedEx Custom Critical is a subsidiary of FedEx Corp., which is ranked No. 2 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
