FedEx Corp. said it will increase holiday hiring above 2012 levels in expectation of higher customer demand.

Spokeswoman Parul Bajaj said the company is not ready to say how many more holiday workers will be hired above the 20,000 added for last year’s peak package season.

Workers primarily will be added in the Ground and SmartPost businesses, she told TT. The hiring process began in mid-September.

UPS Inc. hasn’t yet announced any holiday hiring plans.

FedEx ranks No. 2 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire Carriers.
