EPA Quietly Works Against Promising Engine Technology

img src="/sites/default/files/images/articles/printeditiontag_new.gif" width=120 align=right>The Environmental Protection Agency is quietly lobbying against using one of the most promising methods for meeting the government’s tough 2007 diesel engine regulations, although the method offers simplicity, economical operation and probably will be adopted in Europe, according to industry sources.

The technology, known as selective catalytic reduction, or SCR, sidesteps some of the problems that other methods have, including lower fuel economy, but EPA is discouraging the SCR approach, according to the industry sources.
