EPA Proposes 2012 Renewable Fuel Standard

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has called for the production of 1 billion gallons of biomass-based diesel as part of its 2012 national renewable fuel standard, up from 800 million gallons last year.

The proposed standard also calls for 2 billion gallons in advanced biofuels and 3.45 million to 12.9 million gallons of cellulosic biofuels.

Overall, the proposal calls for an overall total of 15.2 billion gallons of renewable fuels, up from 13.95 billion gallons in 2011.
