Durable Orders Fall in June

Economists Had Projected a Gain
Durable goods orders declined 2.1% in June, the Commerce Department said Wednesday.

The drop followed a revised 1.9% gain in May that was smaller than initially reported, Commerce said.

Economists had expected an increase of 0.3%, Bloomberg reported.

Excluding volatile transportation orders, bookings for goods meant to last several years increased 0.1% after a 0.7% gain in May, Commerce said.

Durable goods include large items like refrigerators and air conditioners. Trucking is a major beneficiary of durable goods manufacturing, hauling both components and finished goods.
