Durable Goods Orders Dip 0.8%

Durable goods orders declined 0.8% in September as demand for aircraft dropped, the Commerce Department said Wednesday.

The decrease followed a 0.1% dip in August, Commerce said.

Economists had forecast a 1% decline in September, Bloomberg reported.

Excluding volatile transportation orders, bookings for goods meant to last several years climbed 1.7%, the largest increase in six months, Commerce said.

Durable goods include large items like refrigerators and air conditioners. Trucking is a major beneficiary of durable goods manufacturing, hauling both components and finished goods.
