DOT Signs I-95 Congestion-Relief Agreement

The Department of Transportation and the I-95 corridor coalition signed an agreement earlier this month to help relieve congestion on Interstate 95.

The agreement, signed for DOT by Federal Highway Administrator Tom Madison, commits the coalition to evaluate projects and technologies to help relieve traffic on the busiest north-south corridor along the East Coast.

The agreement also calls for doubling the fuel efficiency of the region’s vehicle fleet and diversifying fuel use. It also calls for a seamless integrated multimodal passenger and freight network to link major metropolitan regions.

DOT set six major interstate routes as part of a “Corridors of the Future” initiative to develop multi-state corridors to help reduce congestion, of which I-95 was one.
