DOT Sends EOBR Rule to White House for Final Review

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has sent its final rule governing the use of electronic onboard recorders to the White House for review.

The Office of Management and Budget review, which can take up to 90 days, is the last step before the rule is published. It was sent Dec. 17.

Nearly published in the waning days of the Bush administration, the rule was pulled back for more review when President Obama took office.

The initial proposal would have extended a requirement for as many as 950 carriers to use the technology, but FMCSA is already working on a new proposal to expand that number.
