Diesel rose 2.7 cents to $2.652 a gallon , its highest price this year, the Department of Energy reported.

The gain was the fourth straight increase for trucking’s main fuel and followed a 7.5-cent jump last week. Diesel has gained 15.6 cents in the past month.

Trucking’s main fuel is now $1.555 below the same week last year when it was coming off its all-time record $4.764 a gallon, set in mid-July 2008.

Gasoline, meanwhile, fell by a penny to $2.637 a gallon, its first drop in a month, DOE said Monday following its weekly survey of filling stations.

The gas dip followed a 9-cent spike last week and left it $1.103 below the same week a year ago not long after gas hit a record $4.114 on July 7, 2008.

Each week, DOE surveys about 350 diesel filling stations to compile a national snapshot average price.
