DHL, American Airlines Partner on TSA Mandates

DHL said that it has partnered with American Airlines Cargo to help pharmaceutical industry shippers prepare for new Transportation Security Administration screening guidelines set for Aug. 1.

Under the TSA Cargo Screening Mandates, all cargo transported on passenger aircraft after Aug. 1 will be screened at the “piece level,” DHL said in a statement Tuesday.

Individual items will be screened under the mandate, which may pose unique obstacles to the pharmaceutical industry, DHL said. Obstacles may effect cut-off times and costs, since shipments are normally palletized and will have to be unpacked and repacked.

DHL and American hosted a training session about the mandates and told shippers about how to participate in the Certified Cargo Screening Facility program of the TSA. Under CCSF, volunteer facilities will be allowed to bring cargo directly to airplanes.
