Crash Closes Both Directions of I-94 In Michigan

Interstate 94 is closed in both directions near Galesburg, Michigan, located between Kalamazoo and Battle Creek, after a crash this morning involving over 100 cars and trucks.

“At this point it’s estimated it will be another 12 hours,” Michigan State Police Detective Sgt. Shane Criger told Transport Topics about the closure.

One person died and 10 others were injured in the crash, Criger said.

The pile-up occurred in heavy snow and ice conditions and involved one truck loaded with fireworks that exploded and caught fire, he said.

Walt Heinritzi, executive director of the Michigan Trucking Association, said the crash location is in what is known as the state’s snowbelt because the area gets so much lake effect snow.
