Consumer Confidence Improves in December

U.S. consumer confidence improved this month from its lowest level in 28 years, according to the Reuters/University of Michigan’s preliminary monthly consumer sentiment index released Tuesday.

The final sentiment index for December index rose to 60.1, from 55.3 last month, the survey said. A preliminary reading two weeks ago put it at 59.1.

Economists had expected the reading to be 58.8, Bloomberg reported. The sentiment index averaged 85.6 last year.
