Consumer confidence reached a three-month low in March, the New York-based Conference Board said Tuesday.

The group’s monthly index fell to a 63.4 reading from a revised 72 in February.

The reading was below economists’ forecasts of a drop to 65, Bloomberg reported.

An improvement in confidence may increase consumer spending, which accounts for 70% of the economy.
