Colorado Senate Passes Anti-Indemnification Bill

Colorado’s Senate passed a bill March 5 that would block shipping contracts that make truckers assume full liability for crashes no matter who is at fault.

The House passed the anti-indemnification bill Feb. 12, and the Senate Transportation Committee passed it Feb. 25.

The bill would make it illegal for shippers to force truckers to choose between hauling a load and signing a contract that makes them fully liable.

The Colorado Motor Carriers Association has lobbied for the bill’s passage.

The legislation heads to Gov. John Hickenlooper (D). If he signs it, Colorado would become the 40th state to have an anti-indemnification law.
