Clarke Swings to 1Q Profit

Canadian holding company Clarke Inc. posted a first-quarter profit, turning around a loss from a year ago.

Net income was C$4.1 million, or 24 cents a share, compared with a loss of C$900,000, or 5 cents, a year ago. Revenue rose to C$61.1 million, C$46.7 million.

Its freight unit’s earnings before interest taxes depreciation and amortization held at C$1.3 million, while revenue rose to C$42.4 million, from C$38.8 million.

Ontario-based Clarke, which operates in truckload and less-than-truckload sectors via its Clarke Transport unit, also has a home heating segment.
