Citgo Opens ULSD Facility at Illinois Refinery

Citgo Petroleum Corp. has built a facility to produce ultra-low sulfur diesel at its existing Lemont, Ill., refinery.

The new facility has the capacity to produce 42,500 barrels of ULSD per day, the majority of the refinery’s 55,000 barrel-per-day capacity, Citgo said in a statement Thursday.

The facility meets Environmental Protection Agency standards of reducing the sulfur content of diesel fuel by 98%, the fuel refiner said.

Citgo will soon upgrade its Corpus Christi, Texas, refinery to produce ULSD, adding to the Illinois facility and an existing on in Louisiana.
