Chicago Manufacturing Index Shows Continued Expansion

Manufacturing activity in the Chicago region fell slightly in June but showed expansion for a ninth straight month, the Institute for Supply Chain Management-Chicago said Wednesday.

ISM-Chicago’s monthly index slipped to a reading of 59.1, from 59.7 in May, the regional Fed said. Figures more than 50 signal expansion, while below that level indicates contraction.

The reading was in line with economists’ estimates, Bloomberg reported.

Chicago is a major center of U.S. manufacturing, which is one of trucking’s largest and most important customers.
