Chicago Manufacturing Index Dips in June

Manufacturing activity in the Chicago declined but held near a two-year high this month, the National Association of Purchasing Management said Friday.

The monthly index dipped to 60.2 in May from May’s 61.7 reading, the group said. Readings above 50 signal expansion.

Last month, the index had jumped from 52.9 to 61.7. Economists had expected the index to fall 58 in June, Bloomberg reported.

Chicago is a major center of U.S. manufacturing, which is one of trucking’s largest and most important customers.
