Cathy Gautreaux, deputy administrator for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, will be leaving the agency, an agency spokesman confirmed.

Gautreaux, who started her term as FMCSA’s No. 2 official in November 2017, will be staying in the world of federal transportation agencies. She will be taking a position at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Alex Hanson, a deputy chief of staff for the U.S. Department of Transportation, will replace Gautreaux.

Gautreaux succeeded Daphne Jefferson, who retired on Nov. 3, 2017, as FMCSA deputy administrator. Jefferson became deputy administrator in February 2015.

Gautreaux had previously served as executive director for the Louisiana Motor Transport Association for 28 years. In that role, she was a member of several state and national committees that focused on commercial transportation issues.

In 2012, Gautreaux won the president’s Trucking Association Executives Council leadership award from American Trucking Associations.
