CARB Calls for Refrigeration Units to Meet 2008 Emission Standards

California Air Resources Board regulation scheduled to take effect Dec. 10 would require diesel-fueled transport refrigeration units operating in that state to meet certain emission requirements by 2008.

“Now it is official,” said Rodney Hill, a CARB air resources engineer. “It is there and people have to comply with it.”

The regulation’s stated purpose was to reduce particulate matter emission from TRUs — systems powered by diesel engines to refrigerate perishable products in semi-trailers, truck vans and shipping containers.
