Canadian National Engineers Strike

Canada-based locomotive engineers for Canadian National Railway Co. started a strike Saturday, and the government has proposed legislation to stop the strike, Bloomberg reported.

The strike covers 1,700 engineers on shipments within Canada and to the United States, but not shipments within the U.S., Bloomberg said.

Workers started the strike in response to CN’s plans to increase engineers’ monthly mileage limit.

The government has proposed back-to-work legislation to stop the strike, but it only has the support of one of the four parties in parliament, Bloomberg said. It would need at least two parties to pass.
