The increase followed a revised 0.9% increase in January that was smaller than previously reported. Sales rose 1.2% in February, after dipping 0.3% the prior month.

The February inventories gain was smaller than economists’ median forecast of a 0.4% increase, Bloomberg News reported.

Retailer inventories increased 0.3% in February.
