Bosch announced it signed a long-term agreement to supply electric air compressors with integrated power electronics to Cellcentric, a joint venture of Daimler Truck AG and Volvo Group AB focused on developing hydrogen fuel cell systems.

In fuel cells, hydrogen reacts with atmospheric oxygen to produce electrical energy as well as water and heat.

The air compressor, which supplies the required amount of filtered air, will be part of the Cellcentric fuel-cell system for heavy trucks and stationary applications. Large-scale production is set to begin from around the middle of the decade, according to the Gerlingen, Germany-based company.

“We have 15 cross-divisional teams working to commercialize the electric air compressor,” Uwe Gackstatter, president of Bosch powertrain solutions, said in a release. — Transport Topics
