Key Takeaways:
- ATRI opened its 22nd annual Top Industry Issues Survey on Aug. 24 for carriers, drivers and other stakeholders.
- The survey ranks trucking’s top concerns and potential strategies while tracking changes in priorities over time.
- Survey results will be released Oct. 18 during ATA’s Management Conference & Exhibition in Charlotte, N.C.
The American Transportation Research Institute on Aug. 24 kicked off the trucking industry’s annual effort to identify and rank the challenges viewed as most critical by carriers, drivers and other stakeholders.
Now in its 22nd year, the Top Industry Issues Survey asks stakeholders to rank their top concerns and potential strategies for addressing each issue.
ATRI’s analysis ranks the issues overall and examines differences in how motor carriers and truck drivers prioritize critical topics. It also enables stakeholders to track how issues rise or fall in importance over time.
In 2025, the economy ranked as the No. 1 issue for the third straight year.
“For more than two decades, the Top Industry Issues list has been essential reading for any professional seeking to gain deeper insight into the current state of trucking,” said Greg Hodgen, American Trucking Associations chairman and CEO of Groendyke Transport.
Hodgen said the report identifies trucking’s biggest challenges, helps set priorities and guides ATA’s advocacy. He also said it helps policymakers understand how they can support the trucking industry.
RoadSigns has reached its 200th episode since its origins in 2018. Hosts Seth Clevenger and Michael Freeze reflect on how trucking tech has evolved and share the trends that have surprised them. Tune in above or by going to RoadSigns.ttnews.com.
Bob Bramwell, an America’s Road Team captain for 2022-23 and professional truck driver for ABF Freight, encouraged drivers to participate.
“ATRI’s annual survey gives all truck drivers a collective voice,” Bramwell said. “If your top concern is the lack of truck parking, driver compensation, detention at customer facilities, driver training, infrastructure or something else, this is your chance to bring those issues to light and have your voice heard.”
The survey will remain open through Oct. 2 at research.net/r/2026-TII-Survey. Results will be released Oct. 18 as part of ATA's Management Conference & Exhibition in Charlotte, N.C.
