he American Transportation Research Institute said it will develop a new “tool kit” with U.S. and Canadian regulators by 2009 to help trucking better combat driver fatigue.

ATRI President Rebecca Brewster said the tool kit will include a series of videos and brochures to help trucking company officials, drivers and their families identify the symptoms and causes of fatigue.

“We wanted to create something that would take a team approach to managing fatigue, rather than putting all of the responsibility on the driver,” Brewster told Transport Topics.

ATRI, which is an affiliate of American Trucking Associations, is developing the tool kit in cooperation with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and Transport Canada.
