merican Trucking Associations submitted a proposal last week showing how it would administer $19.7 million in federal funds to boost security of trucking operations amid the threat of terrorism.

Jack Legler, ATA’s director of trucking security and operations, said the proposal was made on behalf “of the entire industry, not just our members.”

“We’ve got others involved in this and well-known consultants who we can draw from, but our proposal was submitted on behalf of the 65 state and national trucking organizations that participate in the Transportation Security and Anti-Terrorism Working Group,” he said.

“This is the tactical implementation of the Anti-Terrorism Action Plan developed by the TSWG,” Legler told Transport Topics Sept. 10 in an interview.
