merican Trucking Associations and the National Industrial Transportation League unveiled a model truckload contract June 22 that the carrier and shipper groups said would serve as a standard example of how to structure legal freight agreements and ultimately prevent disputes, liabilities and expensive litigation.

A shipper representative said the model contract would streamline negotiations between shippers and carriers, while some trucking representatives said it would especially help smaller carriers in working out deals with large shippers.

“This achievement is unprecedented and a big step forward in motor carrier-shipper relations,” ATA President Bill Graves said. “It benefits both

arties by encouraging efficient and effective negotiations and the creation of meaningful contractual relationships."
