American Trucking Associations last week named Sean McNally as its new vice president of communications and press secretary.

McNally will direct communications strategy for the association and its member motor carriers, ATA said.

“Sean brings an extensive knowledge of trucking and transportation-related issues to the Office of Communications,” said ATA President Bill Graves. “We’re fortunate to have someone with his talent and experience.”

McNally spent nearly a decade as a staff reporter at Transport Topics. Most recently, he led the government news team and covered Congress and many federal government agencies.

“I’m greatly looking forward to the opportunities and challenges that being the voice of ATA will provide,” McNally said. “I greatly enjoyed my time covering the industry, and I’m hoping that that experience will serve me well in speaking on their behalf.”

McNally joined TT in July 2001, shortly after graduating from Elmira College. He then served in numerous roles at the publication before being named a senior reporter in January 2007.

McNally replaces former spokesman Clayton Boyce, who left ATA in June to work for the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

“I’m grateful for the opportunities that TT’s editors gave me to learn the industry and explore its ins and outs,” McNally said. “I’m looking forward to this new chapter.”
