ATA Foundation to Discuss Supply Chain

The role of trucking and government in the supply chain will be the focus of the American Trucking Associations Foundation’s spring meeting in Key Largo, Fla.

During the event April 29 to May 1, participants will hear from several government officials, including Robert Reich, former Secretary of Labor, and David Gergen, editor-at-large of U.S. News & World Report and former advisor to four presidents.

The conference will begin with a look at trucking’s customers and the market forces shaping their transportation needs.

Fritz Frazier, director of marketing communications for Gateway Computers, will moderate a panel featuring Glen Hageman, the supply chain manager at 3M Corp.; Bill Wolman, chief economist for Business Week magazine; and Vandy Johnson, director of business information and analysis at General Mills.

Speaking on what happens when goods leave trucks for other modes of transportation will be Miles Raper, senior vice president of Ryder Integrated Logistics; Kip Hawley, former chief executive officer of Skyway Freight Systems; and Gary Gilbert, general manager of the buyers group of Sea Land Services.

A May 1 panel on the politics of transportation will feature officials from key agencies that regulate trucking, including Kenneth Wykle, head of the Federal Highway Administration; Fred Hansen, former deputy administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency; Marthe Kent, director of general safety standards at the Occupational Safety and Health Administration; and Ken Krupsky, former assistant treasury secretary for tax policy.
