ANR Closes Special Services Division

ANR Advance Transportation, Milwaukee, will close the Special Services Division of its truckload operations, the company announced Friday.

ANR said the closure will affect approximately 100 jobs. The move was prompted by a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing against the company Feb. 2, initiated by several Teamster health and pension funds.

A company spokesman said the closing will not affect ConEx, ANR's other truckload division.

Less-than-truckoad operations were halted Dec. 8, when 1,400 drivers and dock workers walked off the job in a contract dispute. The union halted picketing Dec. 15, but ANR has not resumed LTL service.

The spokesman said the Chapter 11 filing prompted shippers with accounts at ANR to shift loads to other carriers.
