YRC Worldwide may cut up to several thousand positions in a cost-reduction move that is part of a stepped-up plan to integrate its Roadway and Yellow Transportation units.

The cuts could be up to 15% of the 25,000 workers at 150 terminals where the integration will take place — to as many as 3,750 positions, a spokeswoman said.

The less-than-truckload carrier, which has about 58,000 total employees, last week reported its third-quarter earnings fell 10% from a year ago, the Associated Press reported.

YRC Worldwide is ranked No. 4 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
