YRC Worldwide said last month it will equip more than 10,000 of its city drivers with Intermec CN70e handheld mobile computers beginning in October.
YRC said the devices, which feature image capture, scanning and navigation capabilities, will improve productivity and customer service by enabling drivers to record shipment information more expediently and send it to dispatch centers.
The company said it will deploy the new handhelds to city drivers for YRC Freight and two of YRC’s regional less-than-truckload carriers, Reddaway and Holland.
“By equipping our drivers with these state-of-the-art devices, we expect more on-time arrivals and more reliable service for our customers,” YRC Worldwide CEO James Welch said in a statement.
YRC Worldwide, Overland Park, Kan., ranks No. 4 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
