antrex Technology Inc. said its new auxiliary power unit is available on Volvo VN and Volvo VT 880 heavy-duty trucks. The company said the unit converts battery power into 120-volt AC, or household power in the vehicle cab to operate devices such as televisions, microwaves and computers onboard.

“With high fuel prices, new widespread anti-idling rules and U.S. incentives for anti-idling equipment, we expect strong demand for auxiliary power units from truck owners,” said John Wallace, Xantrex’s chief executive officer.

Xantrex, which is based in Vancouver, British Columbia, said its RM1012 AL unit is externally mounted and weatherproof.
