Winter Storm Hits Highways in Okla., Southeast

A winter storm heading eastward across Tennessee into the Carolinas Friday is causing havoc on roads due to ice and snow, news services reported.

Parts of Oklahoma and Tennessee saw as much as a foot of snow Thursday, leaving a 50-mile stretch of Interstate 44 remained closed in Oklahoma, the Associated Press reported.

The storm will move through Missouri, Arkansas, Kentucky and Tennessee Friday before moving east to Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia on Saturday.

The storm will hit I-40 particularly hard and may close that highway in some states, AP said.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for most of those areas from Friday night into Saturday, with the biggest accumulation forecast for southern Virginia.
