White House Approves Text-Ban Proposal

The White House Office of Management and Budget approved a proposed ban on texting by commercial drivers Monday, sending the regulation on to be published in the Federal Register.

The rule, proposed by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, would follow an earlier ban on texting the agency issued by reinterpreting existing safety regulations.

FMCSA sent the rule regarding distracted driving to OMB on March 19.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the proposed rule had yet to appear on the Federal Register’s public inspection list.
